English 2018-2019

SOS - save our space.
Keeping the environment clean is every human being's responsibility. But the Earth is getting dirtier and more polluted day by day. There are so many problems we are facing today: global warming, waste disposal, pollution, deforestation etc. If we continue moving forward in such a harmful way towards the future, then there will be no future to consider.
There are many easy things we can do to cause less damage to our home. For example, I'm doing my best to avoid buying anything that's plastic, I do not litter, I do not waste water, I do not throw away useless papers unless there's a special trash bin for paper and I also do my best to not waste electricity. Everything can be fixed if people start doing the things I stated above. It's not late and we must spread awareness that we need to be less ignorant or we won't live past 2050.

My favorite corner at school. Where do you like to spend time? Why?
There are a lot of places I like to spend time at school, but my favorite corner is our library. One of the main reasons is because the library may be the only place at school where's not noisy. There are a lot of useful and interesting books and I always get books from there when I have nothing to read. There's also a place downstairs where I often go with my friends. There are puffy rugs there so it's comfortable for us to just sit and talk. Our library is also a very good place for discussions, presentations etc. There is a projector and a lot of tables gathered in front of the board. To sum up, our library is a very comfortable place for any occasion.

Our school website. Do you find it useful? If yes, why. If no, why.
I think that our school website has everything that's necessary. We have an access to our electronic grade book and we can see all of the news related to our school. I think that these are enough to call our website useful. The only thing that I don't like about our website is the fact that they change the design very often, like once or twice a year. I, personally, don't like frequent changes in anything and I don't think that changing it is that necessary. But that's not a very big deal, so in conclusion I  do find our school website useful.

Education camps in our school. Which camp do you prefer?

We have camps twice a year in our school: first one is in the winter, the second one is in the summer. The camps last at least two weeks. We choose the teacher(s) we want to be in a group with, the teachers make a daily schedule for the group. The camps are usually very interesting, we don't do homeworks, we play games, make food in the kitchen, go on trips etc. We started to choose the teachers since last year and I think that it was a very good decision, because the kids could be in a group with a teacher they don't like and they would'nt enjoy the time they spent in school.
I prefer the winter camp, because I think it's more comfortable to go on trips in winter than in summer. In summer the weather is unbearable, it's too hot, but it's not that cold in winter, so it's bearable, also I have a sun allergy, so I never go on trips in summer. For this reason only I like the winter camps more. Our camps are one of the many things that make our school different from the other ones and I really enjoy the time I spend at camps.

Folk music and dance classes at school.
The song and dance which you like the most.
Folk music and dances are two very important things at our school. We sing and dance every morning and we have a class for each of them once a week. I think that every school should have classes for folk music and dances, because it makes the students to get to know their culture and value it more. I like most of the songs and dances, so it's not easy for me to say which one is my favorite. I would say that my favorite folk dance is "Erek votk" and my favorite folk song is "Hadigoy". We have a lot of good folk dances and songs and we must always spread them and never let them die out.

Homework
Blog as an educational tool
It's been already five years since we started to use blogs in our school. Back then we did not use it as much as we do now, and everything was balanced in general, but using it still has its advantages. Firstly, instead of sending our works to teachers we just post it on blogs therefore we won't have any problems like spam, clutter etc. On the other hand, It's harder for teachers because they spend their time visiting every students blog even though there are a lot of students who don't post on blogs at all so I'd say that they waste their time on that. Secondly, it's easier to get a high mark using your blog, because you can just post some of the works you have done, so it's easier to get a passable grade. Although sometimes it's very annoying because some teachers keep "talking" about how important our blogs are, but I, personally, can bear this as long as it's easier to work. Lastly, no matter how easy it is to use blogs I think that it would be better if we had a balance in our school like some years ago, as I stated above, by balance I mean that we could use both our blogs, REAL books and paper like in normal modern schools.

Internet in my life
There are benefits and drawbacks to internet use. On one hand, the internet contains vast amounts of information that can be readily accessed by anyone with a computer. The internet fosters a global information exchange and allows people from totally different backgrounds share ideas and communicate in ways that were never possible before. On the other hand, the internet is an environment in which individuals may be made vulnerable to scams, misinformation, and exploitation. Increasing reliance on the internet may also reduce actual social interaction and/or hinder social abilities.

The advantages of internet use:
1. It provides access to a wealth of referenced sources and information, as well as, common information from around the globe.
2. It allows people to connect and exchange ideas, personal and professional experiences, as well as, historical and up-to-date events and activities.
3. It facilitates classroom enrichment activities, opportunities for learning and work, as well as immediate transmittal of critical, or time-based, documents.

The disadvantages of internet use:
1. It can serve as an avenue for predators to find victims.
2. It may cause people to lose track of time and even become severely attached, or addicted, to its use.

if you could change one important thing in your country, what it would be
There are only a few things that I don't like about my country, but one of them is enough to make me want to leave this place. It's the majority of Armenian people. They may be one of the most untolerated people on Earth, also they're filled with hatred, jealousy and immature competitiveness and they're always poking they're noses in others business. They like to bring down all types of miniroties, I guess they think that if someone doesn't belong to the majority they deserve to be insulted. I'll stop the judging here because I can write about this for pages. I'd just want to say that they can change the country by changing themselves, I don't want them to accept everything, I just want them to be more tolerant and mature, it's not that hard to stop disrespecting people who haven't done anything bad to you.

My school trips
We go on trips very often in our school and that's the number one advantage of our school. Most of my trips were really interesting but the one that I liked the most was visiting Sergei Parajanov's museum. I was very excited that day because it was my first time seeing his works. His works mainly consisted of collages. They had a very unique style and they looked amazing. The one that I liked the most was "the Weeping Gioconda". Anyway, he was also a film director and I'd say that he's THE BEST one in Armenia. After coming back home from the museum I decided to watch some of his films: I watched "The Color of Pomegranates", "The Legend of Suram Fortress" and I became so obsessed that by now I've watched almost every film he made. That's why I'm very glad that I visited his museum, if it wasn't for that trip I wouldn't be intrested in watching his films and I think that not having watched at least one of his films is a great loss for an Armenian.

Each of us live with our families and we spend part of the day in our school. I really think that school is my second home, a meaningful and the most important part of my life. I really love both my parents and my relatives, but I think that without my school, without my classmates, my books my day wouldn't be that interesting. We start our day with singing songs, dancing Armenian folk dances and reading poems. Me and my friends have a chance to choose from a few types of sports, for example volleyball, football, archery. Our school differs from other schools, because our curriculum includes electronic education. We all have our own blogs, where we post our daily works from each subject. In school I picked up the profession I want to choose in the future.

Leonardo Da Vinci was born in an Italian town called Vinci. He lived in a time period called the Renaissance, when everyone was interested in art. Even though Da Vinci was a great artist, he became famous for the other things he could do. He was a sculptor, a scientist, an inventor, an architect, a musician, and a mathematician. Da Vinci’s paintings were done in the realist style.

Realism is a type of art that tries to show things exactly as they appear in life. It began in the 18th century, but the greatest realist era was in the mid – 19th century. Most realists were from France, but there were some famous American painters who were realists too.

Surrealists’ paintings were generally based on dreams. Their paintings were filled with familiar objects which were painted to look strange or mysterious. They hoped their odd paintings would make people look at things in a different way and change the way they felt about things. Salvador Dalí was best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist works.

London is the capital of England, the capital of Great Britain, and the capital of the United Kingdom. It is the largest town in Europe and one of the oldest towns in the world. The old Celts gave it its name, the Romans made it the centre of their new colony, the Germanic invaders tried to burn and to destroy it, the victorious Normans made it the capital of the country. The central part of London is full of historical remains. Nearly every building, every bridge, every street, palace, house, and stone — each of them has its own story, its own past. In London past and present are so mixed together that they cannot easily be separated and when you are in London you see the past in the present and the present in the past. The oldest part of London is called the City. In the City the streets and pavements are very narrow and the traffic is very heavy on weekdays. That is because the most important London firms and banks have offices there. But at weekends the City is almost dead. The most fashionable and the most expensive part to live in is the West End. It is situated between the City and Hyde Park. The City and the West End are the heart of London; they are the parts which everybody who comes to London must see and wants to see, because they are more interesting than any other part of London. All the most interesting buildings, shops and offices are situated here.

Essay on Christmas
Christmas is one of the most awaited holidays for humanity. I don’t really like this holiday, but I think it’s kinda cool when the whole world is celebrating the same holiday. There are different customs and traditions in every country and culture, but everyone celebrates it with the same spirit.
I disliked this day back then when I was a child, so I don’t really remember anything special that happened to me on christmas. I just remember that it wasn’t celebrated any different than now. We usually go to another city or country for a week or two, sometimes we celebrate it at home. I also remember that I usually used to get toys as a kid.
I was fourth grade when I realized that santa is just an imaginary man. I think some of my classmates told me that, but I don’t remember what I felt or what I thought about it.
I want to get a french easel this year. I want a french one so I can carry it around with me wherever I go. I can draw sunsets or landscapes with more details, because when people see something in real life and not from a picture they can be more creative with their work.
I didn’t have a custom to give anyone presents on christmas, but I think I will this year. My parents usually give me money for cab, but since I feel uncomfortable in cabs I always catch a bus. I think I have enough money to buy presents for my family. I hope this christmas will differ from the past ones.

Weird sports
Underwater Hockey
Underwater hockey, aka octopush, is a rudimentary form of hockey played on the
floor of a pool. Players attempt to guide the lead puck toward their offensive end
of the rink using what look like Nok Hockey sticks. Of course, each player is
unable to posses the puck for very long, as they must constantly swim back to
the surface to draw air in through their snorkels. Unlike NHL hockey,
octopush is a non-contact sport.

Zorbing
To "zorb" is to strap oneself into an over-sized hamster exercise ball and
roll down a hill. The zorb is actually constructed with two plastic inflatable balls,
one inside the other, in order to cushion impact. Zorbs typically hold between one
and three people. Some people put water inside the ball so as they roll down the
hill they are splashed relentlessly.

The Godfather by Mario Puzo: short summary

During the wedding, Corleone, respectfully referred to as the Don or Godfather, is obliged to meet with people who seek his help. As the novel explains, "by tradition no Sicilian can refuse a request on his daughter's wedding day." One man's daughter was raped, and he asks Don Corleone to punish the rapists; another man needs political support so that his daughter's fiancé will not be deported; another, the Don's actual godson, is a famous singer whose career will fail if he does not get the movie role that a Hollywood producer has refused to him.

Forrest Gump by Winston Groom: short summary

Forrest Gump is an Alabama boy with a low I.Q. but good intentions. He is running through childhood with his best and only friend Jenny. His mom teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. Despite his lack of sophistication, and the fact that he was raised far from any major cities, Forrest manages to become personally involved in most of the critical events that take place in American History from the late 1950s until the early 1980s. This includes the Vietnam War, the Watergate Scandal, the Civil Rights and Anti-Vietnam War protest movements, and the Computer Revolution. He wins medals, creates a famous shrimp fishing fleet, inspires people to jog, starts a ping-pong craze, creates the smiley, writes bumper stickers and songs, donates to people and meets the president several times. However, this is all irrelevant to Forrest who can only think of his childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran, who has messed up her life. Although in the end all he wants to prove is that anyone can love anyone.
